Meet Our Team! - Angelica Tso
Hi, I'm Angelica! My role at FPC is Social Media Coordinator. I'm a recent hire so I've been involved in FPC for less than a month. My favourite part of being involved with Free Periods is how empowering it feels to be part of a team that is driven to empower other menstruators across Canada. As a menstruator myself, menstruation has always been something that my own circle or family would shy away from talking about, but I love how FPC is working to combat the stigma around periods while advocating for menstrual equity.
Why should people care about menstrual equity?
I believe that people should care about menstrual equity because it is a privilege to be in a position where we do not have to worry about whether or not menstruation will affect the opportunities that we can partake in or our life chances. Too often menstruation has been individualized in a way that shifts the burden away from society onto individual menstruators which neglects the underlying social, economic and environmental inequities that menstruation is embedded within.
A little about me:
This is my cat Boba! His sleeping positions make my day.
What book/movie/song/album changed your outlook on life?
The Power of Meaning by Emily Esfahani Smith really resonated with me and I would highly recommend it for anyone looking into self-development or just a deeper book that offers a simple, but a profound lesson on life.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishment was having completed a 7-day meditation retreat at my local temple in 2018. It was always something that I had wanted to do but was too afraid to commit to even though the temple had always felt like a second home for me as I had been visiting it ever since I was 5 years old. That experience really allowed me to connect deeper with my faith, push my boundaries, and gain a better understanding of myself, which led me to discover my passion and purpose for environment and sustainability 1 year later at the very same place.
