Meet Our Team Members! - Ishleen Kalra
Hi, I'm Ishleen! I am the Administrative Coordinator for Free Periods Canada. I have been involved for two years and am now going on my third. My favourite part about being involved with Free Periods Canada is being able to share the same passion towards menstrual health with like-minded individuals.
What were your interests when you were a kid?
Growing up in a big Indian family, I was interested in playing outside or doing family sleepovers all throughout the summer. My favourite activity was to swing on the swing set all day in the summer (wish I could do that now).
Why do you care about menstrual equity?
Coming from a south Asian background, the concept of menstruation or menstrual equity is rarely spoken of. I was privileged to have had older siblings and access to various technological outlets to learn about menstrual equity. But, I have yet to learn a lot more. Similarly, there are many individuals who do not have access to resources and I would be honoured if I could help them in understanding how to better care for themselves.
What book/movie/song/album changed your outlook on life?
One book that has definitely changed my outlook on life would have to be "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k." In the current fast-paced world that we live in, this book has definitely taught me how to be more appreciative and content with our lives and to enjoy each moment.
What is one place you'd like to see/travel to before you die?
One place I have always wanted to visit was Greece, specifically Santorini. It's arguably the most beautiful island that is surrounded by water on three sides. I can't wait to be there in person to witness its stunning sunsets.
