Youth Service Providers - ME101

ME101 is a free, virtual, educational program for youth service workers
The ‘Menstrual equity 101/Equité menstruelle 101’ (ME101) program, consists of a live 90-minute virtual workshop, and access to three self-paced courses hosted on an innovative digital learning hub called CHARMS. This program has been designed for and implemented among youth service providers (such as teachers, counsellors, sexual health educators, peer educators, coaches etc.) in Canada.

The ME101 program is designed to address menstrual stigma and period poverty involves an 'upstream approach', empowering individuals who engage with youth to incorporate menstrual equity into their everyday work. The education program integrates a live workshop and a self-paced course component, ensuring that our programming establishes a strong foundation while remaining adaptable for continued learning.

This program has been funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada, and delivered in partnership with Food Banks Canada.

Resources for Teachers

Slide deck and speaker notes for grades 5-7
We developed a slide deck and speaker notes to support teachers and other youth service providers in delivering a 1 hour lesson to Grade 5-7 students regarding menstruation. It is based on the content provided in FPC’s Period 101 course. It provides an overview of menstruation and incorporates videos and discussion questions to provide an interactive learning experience.

This slide deck was designed by a team of undergraduate students at UBC, who researched sexual health education in BC for the Map the System research competition. Following their success, they received the Canadian Apprenticing with a Problem grant to build on and explore a tangible initiative to improve the delivery of sexual health education. This project has been funded by: Map the System Canada, ATCO and the Institute for Community Prosperity.

If you have any feedback or comments for this team, please email systemsthinking.sexed@gmail.com
